Ashanti Martinez is a proud member of the Young Democrats of Prince George’s County, where he serves as Vice President of membership. At the 2013 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference, he was on a Youth Panel discussing the importance of Black Leadership.
During his senior year of high school, because of the lack of LGBTQ leadership in Prince George’s County, he created the LGBTQ Student Liaison for the Prince George’s County Regional Association of Student Governments. In 2014, he was the recipient of The Prince George’s Harlem Remembrance Foundation L.O.V.E. Award on Excellence in Service and the Kiwanis Club of Prince George’s County Civics Award. Ashanti was named Top 30 Under 30 by 93.9 WKYS 2017. Over the summer of 2014, he had the privilege to intern in the D.C. office of Congressman Elijah E. Cummings and in the spring of 2015 he interned in Congressman Steny Hoyer, the House Democratic Whip’s Leadership Office. During the 2016 election cycle, he served as Political Director to Joseline Peña-Melnyk on her bid for Maryland’s 4th Congressional District.
