Karen R. Toles


Council Member Karen R. Toles – represents the 7th Councilmanic District of Prince George’s County, and was elected to her second four-year term in the 2014 General Election, and is a life-long Prince Georgian.

Council Member Toles has served as Chair of the Public Safety and Fiscal Management Committee for two consecutive years, and serves as Vice-Chair of Transportation, Housing and the Environment (THE) and of the Rules and General Assembly Committee. She serves on the Board of Directors to the Council of Governments (COG), Secretary-Treasurer to COG Corporate Board, National Association of County Officials-Community and Economic Development Steering Committee and Healthy Counties Initiative Advisory Board, Maryland Association of County Officials-Diversity Caucus President, and Women’s Caucus Vice President, as well as many other Boards and Commissions.

Since being elected in 2010, she has made it her mission to improve the quality of life of the residents of Prince George’s County by strengthening the county’s public safety laws, this landmark legislation has led to a historic reduction in crime. Ms. Toles was also successful in passing legislation to create the first ever Project Labor Agreement Laws in Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland, paving the way for county residents to be hired first on county construction jobs.

Council Member Toles is a distinguished honoree of numerous awards such as the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association’s Outstanding Community Service Award, A. Phillip Randolph Labor Leader of the year award, and Community of Hope’s Shining Woman of the Year Award.
