Jaunese L. Harris
Jaunese L. Harris, a 2012 Technology Rising Star for Women of Color magazine, is a trailblazer. She is a first-generation college graduate; a 1999 graduate of Virginia State University, where she started on her career path in information technology. Harris went on to receive a master’s degree in information systems technology from the George Washington University and a certificate in computer security and information assurance. She has more than 15 years of professional experience in the information technology industry and is currently an information systems security officer at the US Coast Guard Intelligence Coordination Center, where she is responsible for coordination and oversight of proprietary systems on the development network.
Harris mentors those interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. She has consistently talked with local high school students who want to explore opportunities in STEM disciplines. She shares her time and talents with these aspiring students to provide them with a blueprint that will hopefully take them further than they can imagine.
Harris holds an appointed position on the information technology committee for the North Atlantic Region where she is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Tau Omega chapter in Fort Washington, Maryland, and currently serves as the business manager. In January 2014, Harris was selected to be a protégé with Women in Technology (WIT), which offers dynamic personal growth and a platform for professional women to be mentored by experienced professionals in the engineering realm.
