Ellis F. Watson
Ellis F. Watson is chief of staff to Councilman Obie Patterson, District 8. During his four years of working with the councilman, Watson has played an important role in economic development projects, such as Tanger Outlets and MGM Grand National Harbor. Watson is a member of the MGM Compliance Committee that ensures the company is reaching its local and minority business participation goals. His duties involve keeping the community informed on upcoming community issues and development projects.
After law school, at the age of 24, Watson dedicated his professional career to the public sector by becoming the youngest assistant county attorney in the history of Polk County, Florida. During his three years practicing law for the Polk County government, he served as legal counsel for the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustments, Procurement Division, and several other departments and agencies. He also defended high-profile land use cases, local ordinance violations, and contract disputes.
A native of Sumter, South Carolina, Watson received his bachelor of arts degree in political science from College of Charleston, South Carolina, in 2003 and his juris doctor from Stetson University College of Law, St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2006. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
