Telene Shipley has been a teacher for seventeen years, three of those years were with the Baltimore school system and the past fourteen years have been with the Prince George’s County public school system. Shipley currently serves as the instructional lead teacher at the distinguished state and national Blue Ribbon School Whitehall Elementary in Bowie.
During her tenure at Whitehall, Shipley has served in several leadership capacities and received numerous professional awards. She is on the leadership team and heads several committees, such as the School Strategic Plan Committee, Parent Involvement Team, Destination Imagination Team Manager, and a mentor teacher to several teachers. In 2001, Shipley was honored as Prince George’s County Talented and Gifted (TAG) Teacher of the Year for Oakcrest Elementary School in Landover. She was honored in 2011 as Teacher of the Month for the Prince George’s County school system.
Shipley works with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and also the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She serves on several committees, such as the Health Initiative Committee, Global Poverty Committee, and currently is a part of the emerging young leaders (EYL) program. Shipley believes in leading by example. Being a part of these worthy organizations helps her reach her personal goals to support the young people in her community.
