Larry Stafford is known as one of the most connected and knowledgeable people in Prince George’s County politics. He began his career in public service at the age of 17 with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Stafford joined ACORN against a proposal that would have closed down low-income apartment complexes in marginalized communities of Prince George’s County. After helping to defeat the proposal, Stafford has since gone on to work on numerous electoral and issue campaigns in Maryland. In 2011, Stafford became president of Prince George’s County Young Democrats (PGCYD).
Since his election as president of PGCYD, Stafford has led the organization to double its active membership, triple its yearly revenue, and broaden the organizational presence through appearances in media, such as Fox 5, NBC 4, WHUR, and WPGC. Additionally, under his leadership, PGCYD was named the “2013 Large Local Chapter of the Year” by the Young Democrats of America and received the “Community Service Award” from the United Communities against Poverty. Stafford has led PGCYD in organizing supply drives for disadvantaged women, advocating for better funding for Maryland’s HBCUs, and in growing the county’s Summer Youth Employment program. Stafford stands poised to become a progressive force in Prince George’s County’s near future
