Maya C. Garrett

Maya C. Garrett manages the Early Care and Education Funders Collaborative at Washington Area Women’s Foundation. In this role she supports non-profit organizations that strategically work to increase the number of children who are prepared to succeed academically when entering kindergarten.  Additionally, Maya is the president and chief executive officer of Rose’s Place Incorporated,  a Prince George’s County-based senior assisted living company.  Prior to assuming this role, Maya served as vice president of the company since its establishment in 1997, managing the operations of the company.

During Maya’s 12-year career in the nonprofit sector, she has been very fortunate to work with a diverse group of philanthropic, direct services, and advocacy organizations. She has provided them with the resources needed to improve their capacity to make informed decisions through research, policy, and best practice strategies. She has dedicated her career to improving the nonprofit sector, accumulating over ten years of experience in developing, planning, implementing, facilitating, evaluating, and coordinating nonprofit programs and philanthropic initiatives.

Maya graduated from the University of Maryland-College Park, where she studied psychology and family studies.  She obtained her Master of Science degree in administration and organizational management with a specialization in nonprofit management at Trinity University in Washington, DC. As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Maya’s lifelong goal is to improve the lives of underprivileged children and families.  This is evidenced by her service as a mentor, board memberships for various community-based organizations, and her career to date.  She is a participant on the Prince George’s County Child Resource Center advisory committee and participates on the Prince George’s County Public Schools Adolescent Single Parent Program advisory board.
