Committed to service in the field of education, Darnessia Harvey has spent 17 years working in the public school system. Darnessia is currently employed as an instructional coach for Fairfax County Public Schools in the department of professional learning and accountability. She works collaboratively with administrators and school teams to enhance professional learning communities, implement best practices, provide staff development, and increase student achievement. Darnessia enjoys mentoring beginning teachers, tutoring youth, coordinating service learning projects for students, and supporting a local Girl Scout troop with various activities. An active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Darnessia is serving in her fifth year as chaplain of the Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter. She works extensively with the Delta Academy and the Delta GEMS youth program, which exposes young ladies to non-traditional careers, assists them with goal setting, builds self-confidence, and involves young women in community service efforts.
As a licensed minister, Darnessia is co-facilitator for Women In Agreement, a community group that seeks to empower and encourage women of diverse ages and backgrounds through prayer and fellowship while providing a forum to address the unique needs of women. She uses the platform of public speaking to share messages of hope and inspiration with community organizations.
Darnessia is a native of Prince George’s County. She attended North Carolina A&T State University and received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a math concentration. She holds a master’s degree in education and master teacher certification from Regent University.
