When faced with a corporate layoff, Calista Black immediately stepped into her dream of becoming a marketing consultant and working with businesses within her community. Since 2009, she has planned and orchestrated marketing and special events at The Boulevard at the Capital Centre, including the annual “Wind Down Thursdays” Summer Concert Series and “Taste of the BLVD.”
Calista also launched and oversees The BLVD commUNITY Benefits Program. The program was the Eastern Region Winner of the 2012 U.S. Community Support Award from the International Council of Shopping Centers Foundation. Through partnerships with county agencies and local and national non-profit organizations, the program has executed numerous charitable initiatives in the areas of nutrition, literacy, and education. These initiatives have benefited thousands of Prince George’s County families with children and seniors
In addition, Calista successfully manages the workload of graduate school and is expected to complete her master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University in May 2013. Originally from Madison Heights, Virginia, Calista earned a Bachelor’s of Science in media arts & design from James Madison University. Throughout her career, she has held marketing management positions with national trade associations, an advertising agency, and a commercial real estate company.
Calista and her husband Conover are the proud parents of two vibrant sons. They remain committed to supporting organizations that raise autism awareness and initiatives that offer resources to families affected by the disability.
