Taneika Tukan, Executive Director of the Literacy Council of Prince George’s County, is an education professional with 10 years experience of teaching and program administration. After graduating from Yale University, Taneika seized an opportunity with Teach for America to serve the DC metropolitan area as an elementary school teacher. Since then, Taneika has served as Program Director for the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition’s parenting program and Diversity Consultant for the National Education Association. Under her leadership, the Literacy Council expanded its assessment and instructional services for 1,000+ low-income, low-literacy adults to include transition counseling that facilitates and supports entry into the workforce or post-secondary education. Taneika also holds several advisory and volunteer leadership roles with Take Charge Juvenile Diversion Program, The Arc of Prince George’s County, and the Maryland Association for Adult, Community, & Continuing Education. She lives in Fort Washington with her husband Jaytoe and their two children.
