Jonathan W. Hutto, Sr.


Jonathan W. Hutto, Sr., born in Atlanta, GA in 1977, entered Howard University in the fall of 1995. Jonathan immediately engaged the student mobilization for the Million Man March and co-chaired Operation Vote Bison his sophomore year. Jonathan was elected student body President his junior year and represented the undergraduate students on the Board of Trustees his senior year. Upon graduating in 1999, Jonathan became Community Outreach Director for the ACLU/NCA and chosen Membership Program Coordinator for Amnesty International USA. Jonathan helped to initiate a police accountability project in Prince George’s County leading to a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Justice. Jonathan enlisted in the United States Navy in 2004. He initiated an “Appeal for Redress” mobilizing 2000 plus service members through 2007 and 2008 to appeal to their members of Congress to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Jonathan currently lives in Morningside where he is active in civic affairs.
