Preston Mitchum is an energetic advocate and activist who brings over six years of legal and policy experience to his role as Senior Legal & International Policy Analyst at Advocates for Youth. In addition to his work at Advocates, Preston is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center teaching LGBT Health Law and Policy, is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is on the Board of Directors for the Collective Action for Safe Spaces and the Chair of the Washington Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.
Prior to joining Advocates, Preston served as the Senior Policy Analyst at the Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE) and has served as the Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable S. Pamela Gray and the Honorable Errol R. Arthur.
Preston is an accomplished author publishing both scholarly work and social commentary for many outlets and law review journals including The Atlantic, Think Progress, The Root, Slate.com, Huffington Post, William & Mary Journal of Women and the Law, Georgetown Journal of Law & Modern Critical Race Perspectives, North Carolina Central University School of Law’s Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Law Review, and others. Preston has also appeared on Al Jazeera English and Fox News. He received his Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Kent State University; his JD, with honors, from North Carolina Central University School of Law; and his LL.M. in Law and Government from American University Washington College of Law where he specialized in Gender and Law.
