Nova Coston

 

Nova, a native New Yorker, decided at 21 to join the NYPD School Safety Division, which would lead her in service to her country by joining the United States Army. While in the Army, Nova served as a Logistics Specialist.

After serving her time, Nova wanted to continue her education at the University of the District of Columbia were she earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology, She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and served as Senior Class president of her graduating class.

Upon completing her degree, she joined Prince George’s County Young Dems, where she would continue her service in the community through outreach and organizing. From there she was awarded a fellowship with Organization for Action.

Nova became an intern, Legislative Director as well as Chief of Staff for two Delegates, and now serves in the House Judiciary Committee.

Nova’s heart for young people in and around her community is what propels her to look for ways and opportunities to help them advance in what they desire to become. To further her efforts in service, Nova decided to join the race for the Democratic Central Committee for the 25th District of Prince George’s County.

Volunteerism:

Prince George’s County Police Department District IV Citizen’s Advisory Council. District IV Coffee Club, Tree of Life Ministries Food Bank, District Heights Council

Goals:

Nova also desires to bring horse therapy to Prince George’s County to serve veterans, children, children and adults with special needs, those who struggle with PTSD, depression, anxiety, stress, and more.

Nova believes that, while the work is hard, she will remain dedicated to serving the community and those around her. The motto she lives by is, “Don’t worry about being successful but work toward being significant and the success will naturally follow." - Oprah Winfrey
