A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeriel Johnson began playing drums at 2 years old and would go on his first international tour at 15. He received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music and after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Music Business and Management, Jeriel moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the music business. Following roles at Disney, Warner Bros. Records, and NBCUniversal, in 2014 Jeriel would become Head of Urban Music at the Recording Academy, overseeing outreach and the awards process for the R&B, Rap, and Reggae categories for the GRAMMY Awards®. In 2018, Jeriel was promoted to Executive Director of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Recording Academy where he currently oversees Academy Membership and Industry Relations for DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Jeriel has a knack for curating innovative programming that merges art and life. As a skilled musician and advocate for music professionals, Jeriel is passionate about fair treatment of the creative community.
