Ian Edward Spears
At the age of 30, Ian is a rising public servant on Capitol Hill. He is the Legislative Director for United States Congresswoman Lucy McBath of Georgia. He is an advocate for college affordability, preparing the US workforce for the future of work, gun violence prevention, ensuring everyone has affordable access to healthcare, and many other issues. As legislative director, Ian is the chief adviser to the Congresswoman on all legislative areas and manages a team of five legislative assistants.
Ian started on Capitol Hill working in the congressional office of then Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer. He started as an intern and worked his way up to legislative aid. While in Leader Hoyer’s office, he helped Prince George’s residents liaise between Hoyer’s office and various federal agencies.
He has a passion for ensuring that our citizens are prepared for what the future of work will be and preparing them with the skills necessary to compete not only with other Americans but also everyone across the globe.
Ian is a proud Prince George’s native, and attended Riverdale Baptist High School. He attained his bachelor’s in Political Science from Frostburg State University and his Master’s in Public Policy from George Mason University. He resides in Largo and proudly represents Prince George’s County in every meeting he takes with organizations and people from all over the country.
Ian believes that trying to be better than someone else is a waste of time, but instead strive to be better than you were yesterday.
