Anita Walls, a proud Prince George’s County native, attended County public schools from elementary through high school. She graduated from Hampton University where she received a BA in Psychology and a MA in Elementary Education. She received a second MS in Reading Education from Coppin State University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Maryland College Park. Her dissertation is focused on the disproportionate exclusionary discipline practices for male students of color. She is passionate about social justice and inequitable practices that plague students in schools.
Currently, she is a Director of School Support with Achievement Network. She works alongside school leaders and teachers in Washington, DC and Baltimore City Public Schools to provide support, training, and coaching around data driven instruction, standards, and strategies to increase student achievement. Prior to becoming a Leadership Coach, Anita spent 5 years as Principal and 10 years as a Reading Specialist, Testing Coordinator, and Teacher with Prince George’s County Public Schools.
As an educator, Anita knows it takes a village to support the development of children, thus she founded Bright Minds Academy (www.brightmindsacademy.blogspot.com). Bright Minds Academy provides tutorial services for students in PreK–12th grades. She is also very active in her community and church. She serves as a Board Member/Chief External Relations Officer for The Christmas Experience (www.tchristmase.org), a nonprofit organization that supports families during the Christmas holiday season.
Anita is an advocate for all students and works tirelessly to ensure that students gain exponential academic growth and are productive members of society. She enjoys supporting leaders and teachers and believes through hard work and focus on equity, all students can succeed.
