Alesha Wilson, a Prince George’s County native, attended County public schools and graduated in 2009 from Bowie High School with honors. She served as captain of her cheerleading team and dance ensemble. Since childhood, she’s held leadership positions at her home church. Alesha attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee Florida, and graduated Suma Cum Lade with a degree in Business Administration. While there, she joined Mahogany Dance Theatre, where she served as president her junior year.
After college, Alesha returned to Bowie and began her career. She worked in marketing, events, and sales with an emphasis on project management. Alesha received an event management certificate from George Washington University; for her program capstone, she launched Once Upon a Gown (www.onceuponagown.org) in March 2017. This initiative supports students in the DMV area with access to free formal wear, shoes, accessories, and more through donations from the community and retailers. It featured a one-stop shop where students get a full shopping day experience that will hopefully be remembered for a lifetime. As the founder and organizer, Alesha has engaged the generosity of local retailers and individual citizens through their interest to give. This initiative has serviced 300 families over two years and thrives as it continues her mission to engage with students who need it most.
Alesha currently works as the Community Outreach and Special Projects Coordinator for Council Chair Dannielle Glaros. In this role she has the opportunity to actively pursue her passion for service and engagement with her community.
